That's IMHO the real cause of the recent price uptake over 130 ... Not sure if I like disclosing such information ...

Are we seeing panic buying yet?
I am afraid the trading engine has been stopped.

No. The price is stable as all poor souls locked with FIAT in MtGox try to buy BTC a get the hell out of MtGox ASAP. And Mr. Karpeles' silence just worsens this.
And no, there are not many options left. International wire is quite expensive, SEPA takes several weeks to finish. So many just buy BTC as soon as it lowers a bit. Thats what you call "stability".

ouch
Dear Mt. Gox Customers,
In order to comply with strict anti-money laundering regulations we are now requiring account verifications for all accounts performing non-Bitcoin currency deposits and withdrawals. Please see our statement for the full explanation:
https://mtgox.com/press_release_20130530.htmlBest regards,
Mt. Gox Team
Well, just all wait till the day MtGox get hacked (again) or seized by government. Suddenly, all those Bitcoin addresses used to fund/withdraw will be cleanly linked to your ID, photo, bank account, postal address. Nice.

If anything this is good news in terms of Gox making sure they meet all the guidelines to avoid being "Seized by government" as far as i can see.
Yes. But, actually, they do not need to sieze at all. They can authoritatively request information about selected users. And MtGox will have to comply and supply this information, silently.
I am not blaming this on MtGox .. just everyone be sure to realize this.

one, at the moment the price is low (300 to 400M USD), but *interest* to attack btc directly is also comparably low. That might chance as btc becomes more established, but then the *price* will also be higher.
That price of attack is overestimated by factor 10 or even more.
Even by buying ASICMINER Blades (and he sells them still with large profit), you can get 1GH for 0.3 BTC. So 1 TH is for 300 BTC, 600 TH to ride 51% attack is for
20 million USD. THAT CHEAP.
The above price is assuming the attacker is acting with own economics in mind. NSA or others do not have to act this way.

I really start feeling stupid for not selling a single coin since I bought some in late summer... It seems that all bulls sold at least some of their coins during the runup?
But on the other side, I do not have many coins and I believe a much greater value will be achieved during the next years, so I don't want to "lose" some due to bad trading (even I'd profit $-wise).
It just feels strange to lose more dollars than I ever owned...
I thought the same on April this year. Calm down, everybody.

"I wouldn't even "invest" a penny in this monopoly money. The loonie is loosing value thru inflation? So what? Wages are constantly rising and there are plenty of saving options out there that give rates equal or superior to inflation. If you look closer to the purchasing power parity over the years, it increases instead of decreasing because of the economic growth (in 1980 a computer would cost you about the same as a car, nowaday you can find computers for a week's wage). Economic growth is maximized with a little bit of inflation because inflation discourages hoarding which is lethal to an economy; which Bitcoin promotes high and low. Bitcoin is what happens when IT people and programmers act like they always have been experienced financial advisers and economists. Wall Street is gonna come in, pump this already inflated dream and scam the good people Bitcoin's supposed to protect."
Hahaha, I'm in tears..
Well, he's right about the last part, time to ride the train!
Finally, great

In my opinion, MtGox is lowering the BTC price (by panic etc) to force a lot of users to cancel their fiat withdrawals (to buy cheap coins) and thus clean up those enormous queues.

After MtGox hack in July 2011, there was a "424242.424242" transaction to prove MtGox solvency. Can't lookup details who asked for that prove and how exactly it was proven.
Unless properly designed, this "proof" could be made by thief himself.

Post 5611513 (copy this link) (by Hawkix) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_12.25h):
Serious question:
What's the point of the mtgox data dump, and even looking into it?
It only means we get a glimpse into their *internal* accounting... how does that tell us anything that we don't know already.
Possible that I'm missing something though, so please correct me if I didn't think this through enough...
You can probably bind the data in the MtGox database with blockchain data. Then, you can find all MtGox used Bitcoin addresses. Then, you can find where the rabbit hole goes ...

16k wall only there for a second... I've always felt there were large buyers patiently accumulating without putting up massive bid walls. I think that this is perhaps a mistake where they accidentally showed their cards and proves that the funds are really there waiting to snap up cheap coins
not a mistake, i bet it was show of force, its signal that to jumpstart the market.
I think that it is new way how to induce bullish movement, without even risking that your wall gets eaten by some bears. IMHO trap.
