Where can I see the sell orders?

http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com/ has real time buy/sell orders listed, for up to 1000 lines.

The site does lag out sometimes though.

EDIT: Beaten to the punch.

The more volume we see around 120, the less we will ever again visit 100.

Unfortunately, I am short 2000 coins, and have no need for the dollars.

That's ironic, as I am short 2000 coins, and don't HAVE the dollars =/

I am aiming for them, slowly though. If only I'd stop buying in just as it drops. Tongue

I'd prefer it if they nudge the 120 wall first... I need to sell before I can buy.

4. Post 2039717 (copy this link) (by oroboras) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_10.56h):

That is basically my plan too. If it works, Sept 2nd will be the day I quit my job, with 1006 BTC providing a decent income.
Sadly, every day that goal seems to fall further and further away.

I AM determined though, and will continue with my goal.

EDIT: I'm investing in ASIC's too, to help me along.

5. Post 2039794 (copy this link) (by oroboras) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_10.56h):

Well, I am aiming for 3% clear increase in BTC volume per day - it compounds quite quickly, without being TOO hard to achieve, but my last 3 buy-ins were literally *just* before hard market drops, so I have failed this week, completely - hence why I need a 120 peak, followed by a drop to around 110 to get a good outcome. (I'll still be around 7BTC short of this weekends target)
It hasn't stopped me fighting though!

Thanks!
Following things in this thread has given me a better insight into the overall market movements, so I am now able to predict trends slightly better now - but I think it'll take me a long time to perfect things - if I ever manage it.

EDIT: Oh, I am already prepared for those - I've had enough already XD

 Undecided

I don't mean I am a sudden mastermind and perfect trader, but I understand more where I have been going wrong. I know I have a hell of a long way to go - if ever - before I understand it.

It seems this downward plunge is losing steam rapidly now.
I doubt we will see the 106 wall threatened any time soon - unless someone with plenty of BTC wants to prove me wrong Wink

I expect 110 to be the new level ground for a while. Maybe it's worth buying in now.

not really, I still have the same financial value when they return to the price I bought at. AFTER that, I will sell them.

26. Post 2066509 (copy this link) (by oroboras) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_10.57h):

Well, I aim for 3% increase in BTC volume per day, so since I have just bought the BTC at $112.5, it's not worth cutting my losses at $110, as it will take longer to recover them.
Anyway, the downward trend seems to have lost momentum, and is turning back upwards.

I'm trying to make my initial buy-in of 6.2 bitcoins* into enough to quit work - I'm at 16.7 now, after 2.5 weeks, so eventually I will manage it - if only I can purchase and sell at the right time for once.

I'd rather take my time, and tread carefully. I have slipped back too many times this week (I had 22.5 BTC at one point, then held cash due to a badly timed sell, as it shot up on the 3rd while I was asleep. I tried to recover by buying in late, just as it peaked again - I lost about $500 that day) Sad

The thing is, I have very limited resources, and I really don't think it will drop much below $110 again any time soon, so I'd rather not risk it.

* I bought those (literally) 15 minutes before it plunged from $250....

I guess I failed hard when I bought in - but that's history. I have recouped my losses, and I'm striving upwards and onwards!

You are really saying you want to quit your job and live on trading 16.7BTC? I don't understand. How much money do you need to live per month? $300?

No, what I am saying is... if i can make a 3-4% profit every day - after roughly 140 days, I'd have approx. 1000 BTC. THEN I can quit work - as a 1% profit (after fees) every day would get me 10BTC per day - or (at todays prices) $1200 per day.

THAT is why I'm willing to do little trades for now, just to get to that target. - THEN I can quit my job.

34. Post 2071670 (copy this link) (by oroboras) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_10.57h):

Well, I also have an ASIC on the way, which should help.

I'll also be putting the profits from that into a few more of them, at first.

I know it's a hard slog, but I think I can do it. If it takes longer to achieve my goal, then so be it - I won't quit until I've got those 1000BTC (and enough profit from day trades to have saved the eqivalent of a few months wages at my normal job - which will be a couple of weeks if the price holds)

Meant the trading game...if price drops too far below my break even point, I'll just chalk it up to a gambling lost, lock away my bitcoins, and come back when the next block reward is halved lol.

Gah! Can't say I didn't try though Tongue

If I lose on my trading, I'll just up my mining output....somehow.

Secure

Mt.Gox is protected by Prolexic and certified by VeriSign, which means all communications with our servers are encrypted with SSL technology.

The thing is, Layer 7 DDoS attacks are seriously hard to stop.

Even Prolexic ain't enough. Apparently, anyway.

For the love of me I cannot figure out how to mine. Got a user friendly guide?

https://mining.bitcoin.cz/ look on there. It's really easy, and if like me you keep your PC on 24/7, then the extra power consumed is virtually nothing.

I doubt that guy will dump his 400BTC yet. I hope he does though, as I will be able to buy in for a tiny profit if he drops to 111.5 - and a tiny profit > boredom.

I used fiat to fund my mining equipment, saw it as a better way of topping up my investment - bonus of a shiny new PC!

I had no fiat, so it was one or the other, and I have done terribly trading.
So I will have a shiny 3x HD7970 rig, churning out 2GH/s - and my ASIC will eventually arrive, so I'll do ok in the long run.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, the total hashrate and difficulty will go up so fast will all these new ASIC's hitting the market that you will feel forced to invest more and more into mining equipment. It's a king of the hill battle with a neverending slope upwards and no top. Good luck with that, only the ones somewhere high up the hill will be able to make a good profit.

There were people back in 2011 saying mining was a waste, it was too late, you'd make more buying BTC. Mining is still quite profitable. I wouldn't hesitate to get into mining, it's not quite as insanely profitable as it used to be, but you'll make money. GPU I'd only do a few rigs that you can use as gaming rigs, the rest into ASIC. Plus it's fun and the more miners the better for the network (more decentralized, which is good).

The 7970s are fine cards, easy to resell if he can get more ASICs down the road.

That's why I am getting them. I will sell 2 of the 7970's when my first ASIC is shipped, then I will buy a 50GH/s ASIC, and just run that.
It will be good for a while, and I should have made enough to break even, with sufficient stored to get the upgrade when they are built - especially if the BTC keeps going up in value.

So, since I bought in at $143.39 - should I sell out again, and wait for the crash?

Seriously man, go make graphics, wait tables, mow lawns or something and use it to buy coins.  You'll do a lot better than trading 1.38 BTC...

Well, I also work 55 hours per week (minimum)... and have 2 ASICs on order, so hopefully the volume of my BTC will increase.

But to be honest, my trading is just a way of slowly building up a profit - and it is a profit, right now. About 30-40% on what I had to start with after using most my 9 BTC to buy the 2nd ASIC.

It would help if Gox's new UI didn't suck balls.
Every time I go for a market order, it says I don't have enough funds, when I clearly do. It's so frustrating.
By the time I've refreshed the page, and re-entered the same volume of cash that I put in first time, the market has run off without me (again)

That's hardly backing...it's more the mechanics of btc...backing surely means a promissory equivalence:  you can't approach the blockchain and ask for an equivalent weight of gold, as you might with a GBP...."I promise to pay the bearer".

Except the UK did away with the gold standard years ago. The GBP is based on nothing now, like with all (or most, at least) other currencies.

You try going into the bank and demanding 5lbs of Gold for your £5 note Tongue

This has been the most difficult of all the crashes to watch without moving significant sums of bitcoin to the exchanges (because opportunity seemed so obvious), but I remain resolved that the risk of allowing 3rd parties control over my bitcoins is too great.  The best I was able to do was have some fiat on a couple of exchanges with buy orders staggered all the way down to $250, many of which, as you can imagine, were hit, and the bitcoin have subsequently been removed from the exchanges.

I'm with you on this. Here, take more money then I've ever had in my life and please don't make it disappear ok?ok?ok?ok?ok?ok?ok?

Yep.  It's really an absurd risk, on top of the risk of merely being involved in bitcoin in the first place.

You can trade only with a slice. Ofc risk is higher, but so is possible gain also. Without risk, there's no win. Gox and Stamp has not directly stolen anyones money (if goxxing doesn't count).

I don't think Goxxing counts. Most people who are 'goxxed' are people who keep forgetting that Market Orders go in order of placement, and that the special MtGox LagEngine (TM) comes into effect when many people place orders at once.

Also, bye bye 700

The FBI was somehow able to get DPR's private keys for at least part of his stash.  The FBI moved these coins to an address they control with a series of 324BTC transfers (324 = FBI on telephone keypad).  So they already have the private keys needed to auction the coins off.

Why would they do it that piecewise, rather than all at once?

how is this different than auctioning off rare art or expensive cars that were proceeds of crime?

I don't know.

Suppose that instead of bitcoins he had the money deposited as Swiss francs in a Swiss bank account, and the FBI got hold of the bank account number and password.  Could they just transfer the francs to another account in the same bank and auction them, or convert them to USD?

Or suppose that he had placed a large bet on the outcome of World Soccer Cup 2018.  Would the FBI auction his betting ticket?

As someone has already posted they'll most likely just auction it off. It'd be very interesting to see what price it'll go for. And probably in one big transaction

The Bitcoin foundation should lobby for it to be sold in smaller tranches to not allow a huge manipulation of the market.

They should give them to those miners who were screwed over by Butterfly Lab's inability to ship on time Tongue

what is happening around Bitcoin businesses ? Butterfly Labs website also mysteriously went down and left so many customers who pre-ordered millions of dollars into their new generation hardware empty hands...

http://dorktech.com/where-did-butterflylabs-go/

Butterfly the 2nd version of MTgox, and empty website:

http://www.butterflylabs.com/

Quote
3/1/14 – Popular Bitcoin ASIC hardware/software company ButterflyLabs has mysteriously disappeared Friday evening. The company was just getting ready to roll-out their 600/GH and 300/GH cards that many individuals and companies have pre-ordered as early as 8 months ago. Their website currently just shows an empty blank white page at the moment. Although upon deeper digging, some of their directories still exist on the server. Also, the ButterflyLabs Twitter page is also not showing any new signs of activity. Does this mean that ButterflyLabs is also going to leave us as well?

This comes just a few days after MtGox, a highly used Bitcoin/USD trading platform, went down due to mistakes made in the security of the platform.

What is next for Bitcoin? All I can say is that we are in for a bumpy ride – so strap on your seat-belts and hold on.

ButterflyLabs has disappeared?
Did anyone notice the huge jump in network hashrate in the last day or two? I mean HUGE! (It spiked from 27,000Th/s to 35,000Th/s yesterday)
I wonder if they cut and ran with all the new kit, and are mining with everyones preorders?
Wouldn't surprise me one bit, after how they played the last generation.
