Does anyone actually think that Barry and co. are gonna let the unkowns (dumpers) walk off with these coins without a fight?
This auction will turn out to be a 30k coin pump, mark my words.

550 re-test coming for sure?
Will it hold?
So many questions, so little fud
exactly. no FUD and we are heading down fast with no support.
kinda worrysome.
Yep, it'll head down to xxx and then once the auction is over and people lose memory of the event, it'll head right back up to xxx and then some.
People should know the drill by now.

I'll stick my neck out and say we're probably at or very near the bottom of this sell-off.
Without China and co. in there, it's safe to say that dumps just don't have the force they use to have.

what is happening now is a rally between holders to sell without causing any panic, the book order is really thin with few thousands BTC at the Bid side while there is more than 12 million coins out there, do the math.
11 million as Satoshi is in for the long haul.

Auction is only two days away, so it is quite feasible that coins are being dumped to depress the market "reference" price ahead of bidding.
depressing? is that the right word?
if you are not willing to pay the market price and dumping coins on the market to bid lower...well, then the current market price is not right.
let us see then how much are they willing to pay.
I say 500.
I say its the most stupid forecast and explanation I ever heard.
well, it is even more stupid to think that someone is dumping coins to depress the "reference" price.
What is stupid about dumping coins to depress the reference point? There is nothing stupid about that.
you can manipulate the "reference" price, but how do you manipulate sealed bids?
what happens if you win the auction with 400 $ bid, or
if there is not enough interest to buy the coins at all?
There will be more than enough motivation on the part of institutional investors like Barry n co to keep the btc out of the hands of dumpers who want to crash the market.

why? even the "institutional investors" like and want cheap coins.
That's not the point. The important part is not what they are bought at, but what they might be sold at (if they are sold at all).
That list is composed of nothing but holders and dumpers. The institutional holders will do all they can to ensure that the coins don't fall into the wrong hands that would then turn around and dump them on the exchanges. I guarantee you you will see a bid war way past $400.
We can only hope that the institutional guys win.

The bear trap is worse than I expected. Feel sorry for everyone selling right now
Why feel sorry for them? It's the same old bad news, panic sell, recovery cycle and you would expect most would perceive it by now.

some known early adopters are dumping, and many other adopters/investors/developers are slowly losing faith (one of them speaking), Bitcoin needs another bubble ASAP, bubbles are the only thing keeps Bitcoin ongoing.
I don't believe that for one second. Lack of bad news != waning interest.
Bitcoin is maturing from an adolescent out-of-control teenager into a mature member of society.

So who sells near the bottom of the long term trend line and why?
Besides all the weak hands who think the price will tank because of the auction

Does someone think that lowering the market price will somehow give them cheaper coins at the auction? Its not like their bids are entered as +/- a certain percentage of market price. Maybe they think they can fool the other bidders by hoping they look at the price and adjust their bids from there. But no bidder is that dumb.
I speculate purely on news and overall phycology/sentiment. This can't be news, and the consensus around here is 50/50 on the auction coins. The only two things I can think of is everyone is waiting for the auction to end, or manipulation is trying to get coins from weak hands.
Any insight from you folks that I might be missing?
It may just be people moving back into fiat to protect against the possible (but highly unlikely).
This price dip is no sell-off / crash.

I´m feelin a bit bullish lately, anyone else? Shorts closed,
BTC bought, tempted to hit leverage long if we should break 590-600$

Anything under 600 is an autobuy in my book.

[2014-02-26] Mark Karpeles Fails to Reassure MtGox Investors, Again ::
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=489299.0 The price of a bitcoin was $655 (or around there) at the start of the Mt Gox fiasco.
People are seeing that the government (nor the winning bidders) is/are not going to dump these coins on an exchange. As such, along with just about everything else priced in, 650ish or higher is to be expected.
Edit: 775 - 825 new target once auction becomes sufficiently "old news".

The precedent has been set for the other ~110k bitcoins that are yet to be auctioned.
Dumpers will not get them because they will never bid up past market price. The VC firms bidding will simply bid up past market price and keep the coins out of the hands of the dumpers.
This is all a good ending wrt to closing off the whole Mt. Gox fiasco.

I love how bitcoiners want to spend hours and hours analyzing this auction and the buyer, when there's 1000% chance that Tim Draper will do absolutely nothing but sit on these 30K coins for the next 6-12 months while he further invests to build out the third world exchange infrastructure.

I believe this is exactly what he'll do. Why in the heck would he dump at or below market rates when he bought way above market rates?
He's a VC. They hold and invest.

Yes exactly. I guess everyone else that still wants to debate the stupid "dumping" scenario is just trapped in that movie Idiocracy.
Yep - the dumping scenario is so stupid because it's just simply illogical and lacking of common sense wrt to the pure enthusiasm/momentum that VCs are demonstrating toward Bitcoin as a whole. Did anyone expect these VC types
not to throw up a fight for these coins? Buying 30k coins below market rates and then dumping on an exchange at market rates? Really?
Have people forgotten about the hundreds of millions worth of VC money that has been put toward the Bitcoin ecosystem and that only a small fraction of that is needed to secure
all of these coins?
FUD'rs will be FUD'rs i guess.
I know i'm tooting my own horn here, I called it on the 25th:

I'll say this now, that the rest of the SR coins will go in like manner...above market value and won by VCs.

Though advancements in weapons technology have leveled the playing field there somewhat.
I am of the opinion that small nuclear fusion explosive devices (yields dialable down to the level of pounds of TNT) are likely to see application by organized terrorist networks within 10 years, and that the technology will be available to punters on a budget within 20. I am hoping this will put the fear of God into more than a few oligarchs.
No.
How about you keep it on topic and talk about bitcoin price movements.
