Those small 0.01 transactions, are those just bots or was that a poor DDOS attempt?
If those are bots, why are they trading such small volumes?

who would trust large amounts of coins to a bot
Oh so those were bots from lots of different people? I thought those were just from a few people that have bots running. I was wondering why those bots would spam multiple 0.01 trades instead of one bigger trade. Makes more sense now.
Someone just dumped 900BTC for around $120k

So, what are the expectations for the weekend guys? Based on past weekends I'd say that it will stay around $130-$140 without much happening at all. Weekends are kinda boring actually.

Pretty much every Bitcoin weekend is boring

Is it because the big traders are taking the day off?

Can someone explain to me why many people use millibitcoin instead of actual bitcoin? I saw some people talk about it but I still don't get what makes it 'better'? Isn't it essentially just BTC/1000?

Thanks for the explanations everyone!
I suppose it does indeed make sense to use m
BTC for now. Should make purchasing things a lot more straight forward indeed.

Maybe I should also convert everything I do to m
BTC from now on since I am currently only trading with very very low volumes. I just put in $150 to test out the whole Bitcoin thing and I've never owned a whole Bitcoin. Saying "I have 552m
BTC" is really much easier than saying "I have 0.552m
BTC.

there was one dip that could be used, I've bought some as low as below 123. And it immediately bounced to 133 for minute or two.
On mTGox yes ... not on BitStamp
QED ... you had a 2 minute window

EDIT : I think there were 2 two minute windows today ! 2 minutes might even be stretching it a bit ! Well done if you caught either of them. Me ... I did nothing.
Missed much better window yesterday but caught this one, though not with volume I wish I did.
Yep I'm on Bitstamp too and saw that quick drop and rise...on MtGox. Timed it well on Bitstamp but there just wasn't any money to be made there.
Best I've done today is just now sold for 129 when I bought for 127...nothing special at all.
Well atleast you did something in order to keep the fees down on Bitstamp. I sometimes do <2% profit trades just to keep the fees under .4%

I am very bullish on the next week. It is possible that $200 will be breached. Every time bitcoin starts to rise in a serious way, the supply side just dries up, leading to an overextension and then retracement. Monday can easily see $160 but I don't think the post-crash high will be taken until Tuesday.
If anyone has coins to sell directly for bank wire, I am happy to buy them at current rate - 3% as my margin. Or I can buy goxmoney (seller buys coins, sends them to me, I bank wire). PM soon, it's late here

Or I can write puts for $120! Best of both worlds for you who don't want to sell and don't want to risk the downside!
Pulled my $137 sell order. Think I'm gonna put all my faith in this guy instead.

I have no idea to be honest. I'm thinking it will test $125 again tommorow, then go back to the $150 area on Tuesday.

I hear you. But the problem with that approach is that you just got into an arranged marriage with your position. It's hard to see the market objectively from there
Not everyone is here to speculate. Leave the guy alone.
That was not intended to be an attack, just an honest opinion

What do you mean I can't see the market objectively from my position? I'm not a daytrader really, I'm in it for the long term.

Can't tell if this is a sarcastic comment, considering the thread and subforum.
We're again at 100.0 as I type this. Humans and their love for certain numbers... skewing prices since they learned to count with fingers.
It doesn't mean anyone has a right to tell another person what to do with their money. That is manipulation, not speculation. The guy didn't say "tell me what to do."
I'm speculating but neither buying or selling. Must blow your mind to find out people do this.
Hold on ... I didn't tell him what to do, just gave my HONEST opinion on his predicament. The only person here telling someone else what to do is in fact you ... but I am not taking offence as I know you were doing it with good intention
I am not here to manipulate the opinions of others, although given the number of people that are, I can see how that mistake could be made
I just wanted to add that I didn't take offense from any of your posts either. All the questions I asked were not meant to sound sarcastic. I'm honestly new to all this and still have a lot to learn, so I wasn't mocking you or anything.

Just asking honest questions (I know sarcasm and non-sarcasm are hard to convey in text)

Btw, this is the last day when we see $95 EVER, you can quote me on that.

You have been wrong like 3+ times in the past 2 days, why should I take your word for it now?
I actually now believe you're making these statements just to give yourself an advantage. You're a well known member of the community and probably have a lot of influence on new guys (like me too at first, admittedly)
If you really want to make predictions that people take seriously you gotta put your money behind them. Bet 100BTC that it's never going to $95 again.

I just put lots of bids from $75 down to $10. Whatever the bottom is I'll catch a good chunk of it.
what is the best strategy for doing this?
I usually pick a spot where I want to begin, and double the amount I'm going to buy the lower it gets.
So for example
0.1BTC @ $80
0.2BTC @ $78
0.4BTC @ $76
0.8BTC @ $74
etc.
I'm sure theres different strategies for this but I find this one the most logical sounding.

I'm curious about these strategies.. people use the same strategies when they play blackjack. They play the minimum, they lost, then they play twice the minimum and so on.
What they don't realize is that they waste a valuable and most often unaccounted factor TIME!
You can easily buy or sell ALL your coins at a single price, if you re-buy or re-sell at a better price then BAM!!! you made a shit ton of money compared to the averaging strategy you use...
It's kinda like the "diversification" approach... when all the so called financial advisors recommend to diversify...
that's code for "I have no clue what will go up or down, so to cover my ass, I'll recommend you to bed on all the different stocks so in the end I make money off commissions and you break even"
Anyways... I'm not criticizing your strategy, just pointing out what I think is the common denominator in many other situations.
That's true. If you look at my example and the price only goes to $78 then I'm screwed because I only bought 0.3. This strategy is mostly just to try to predict the bottom and try to catch as much as you can even if your bottom is off by +5%. Catching the exact bottom and going all in is very difficult for me. With this strategy I can pick a bottom +/-5% and place my bets accordingly.

I think your problem is that you realize 100 million new facebook users in 3 months is quick adoption, but refuse to do the math concerning what the same number of users of Bitcoin in the same timeframe irrefutably means to USD/BTC rate.
I don't know why you believe Bitcoin is going to be used by 1 billion people by the end of the year. That's simply not going to happen. Things like Facebook grow quickly because they're easy to use and people tell their friends about it etc. - Essentially everyone can go ahead and make a Facebook account. It's free, can be done in a few seconds.
Take Paypal for example:
NOVEMBER 2001
In a brief two years, PayPal has emerged as the most successful new
payment service provider on the Internet. Growing at a rate of 18,000
new accounts per day atop a base of 10 million registered users, PayPal,
more than any other service, is shaping how the online community thinks
about consumer payments. While the traditional financial services
industry looks on—partly in contempt, partly in awe—PayPal continues to
bear down: focusing on customer needs, methodically expanding its
service, and steering toward profitability.
This research report examines PayPal’s clear market success to
determine what lessons can be taken away by others in the financial
services industry. After describing how the service has evolved into a
point-to-point payment service, it looks at the company’s customer value
proposition, innovative marketing approach, and overall positioning in the
payments industry. The report concludes by distilling the lessons learned
from PayPal into six simple rules for developing new payment services.
That's 18,000 accounts per day, roughly 6.5 million per year. I know that's 2001, 12 years ago before the internet really started catching on. However my previous point still stands: Creating a Paypal account can be done in under a minute. Getting into Bitcoin is much much harder. When I first started I had to read up on a TON of things, then I had to somehow get my money into one of the exchanges. After a few days of fiddling around I finally managed to get some €'s into Bitstamp via a SEPA transaction.
Right now Bitcoin does not appeal to the general masses of regular consumers. If you want it to you need to make it MUCH easier to get Bitcoins and get to know about them.

Agree, you'r buying instinct is state of the art. Those 700 bought at 134 day before 40% crash is the move of the Master tactician

It was irresistible, goat sold to me at 3% discount to Gox!!

At the time of the deal the terms were in your favour (if we skip over the no-escrow part). Goat admitted to making a slightly unprofitable deal to see whether you could actually cough up $92k. That the market went significantly south after that is just bad luck (and unimportant in the long run).
At that time I did not fully buy back. I could buy back in full now and be better off. I just assumed we were going up, silly me.
However I'm not going to buy back all now, I want lows 70s!!!

FWIW $80 was the low for a long-time, maybe forever.
$115 is Fair Value for Bitcoin NOW.sqrt (Peak $266 / Low $50) = 2.31
sqrt (Retrace peak $166.4 / Retrace low $79) = 1.45
$266 / 2.31 = $115.2
$166 / 1.45 = $114.5
$79 * 1.45 = $114.5
$50 * 2.31 = $115.2
Expect Bitcoin fx rate to oscillate with a median value of $115 for some time, at least until next major news-fed feeding frenzy!

I'd prefer it if they nudge the 120 wall first... I need to sell before I can buy.
I think that whoever is putting the wall at $110 is trying to get the price up to $120-$125 so he can get rid of the last dump of coins he bought at a higher price before the value started going down. We should see some movement as soon as we get to a new high point. ($120 or $125 or whatever it might be) - As the price rises to ~$119 he is going to move the wall from $110 to $115 in order to put even more buying pressure on the market, so that he can get the price over his desired value.

It's not going to make it that far, though. People are becoming wise to the plan.
The guy is probably going to get impatient soon if he's been waiting for the price to hit $120 all day long. He might dump his coins at $117 already.
Btw. 2 and a half minutes of Goxic lag right now.

Ah okay. That makes sense then. Was wondering why the searches suddenly dropped down to 0 on Google Trends...
But on that chart you can pretty clearly see that China didn't have that big of an impact. Otherwise you would see it in the searches I presume? Although I'm not sure wether Google in blocked/censored in China.

Let's get back on topic maybe?
Like I wrote in SlipperySlope's thread, I think we're at a critical point where two trendlines are about to collide.

Any relevant movement upwards, crossing 120, is evidence that the post-bubble correction trendline is broken, or at least getting weaker. Any sharp decline, 90 or lower, would be evidence that the mid-January growth trendline is no longer valid or weakened.
No idea where we're going from here, but I believe that whatever direction it is will give us a good idea where we're going in the coming weeks.
Oh that one is absolutely beautiful. Wish I had known about this earlier...

Cyprus thing is a joke. That was just speculative mania. I will ask you something: have you invested significant money in Bitcoin? If the answer is yes, how long did it take from the first moment you heard about it?
Again: entering into Bitcoin is a lengthy process - first you have to understand, not only what is Bitcoin but also how to keep your bitcoins safe. Then you have to find out how to buy them, and then you slowly start pouring money, just a little a the beginning.
That's everybody's process. When it will come the day that the average citizen will have the understanding and the means to quickly throw a lot of fiat into Bitcoin after the kind of news we had in March, then.... Well, you cannot imagine the kind of huge motherfucking bubbles we are going to see.
This is what I was thinking aswell. I was actually thinking about doing a startup, a website where you can only buy Bitcoins. That's it, nothing else. Make it work INSTANTLY without any delays whatsoever, with common payment methods including Paypal (I think people can't put money in BTC's because Paypal is mostly unavailable, thats the problem I had when I first started) - Right now getting Bitcoins is a very long process that can take weeks if you take the Mt.Gox verification into account. On that website I could sell Bitcoins instantly, but maybe at a higher price than the current market situation [+5%] so I still make a profit.
I thought about maybe making a kickstarter for it or something similar but I don't know...

any comments on the extremely thin bids on bitstamp?
I moved some coins there to sell to get some fiat out, as gox sounds like a long wait and expensive to get money back to UK.
Now I'm watching, waiting and pondering whether to use to buy more... but bitstamp looks a lot less solid than gox. Is that because a lot of Europeans are doing what I did?
Even if Bitstamp looks worse than Gox, it will more than likely follow whatever direction Gox goes. Haven't seen it more than $5 apart in the past few weeks.

With all this bad news and lag surrounding MtGox, why haven't people been leaving? Is it fear of lower liquidity? Chicken-or-egg problem? Catch-22? (all the same thing I believe)
It may be the fact that people have a lot of faith in Bitcoin. And since Mt.Gox can't pay out $'s at the moment they are just holding on to their
BTC instead.

It's hard to tell what's going on now since most people can't even get the site to load, but I converted the dollars I had on Gox to BTC and moved them off this morning. I really don't think anything major will come of this Dwolla situation but this morning it was all kinda muddy and I feel better with it in Armory for now.
