This constant downward pressure we've been seeing pretty much the whole year doesn't make sense anymore.
I simply refuse to believe this is natural. That this is what everyone wants.
I also don't believe in theories as banks or governments taking us down. That is nonsense. But this is simply not normal behaviour. It's getting absurd now. This last round of dumping is absurd.
The thing is, there's still too much confidence in the market (look at the current poll). Fear, capitulation, despair? We haven't seen this yet. Ironically all the good news of the last weeks and months are to blame. So this bleeding will only fade out slowly. A stable price at around 500$ would be nice for now, and then ccmf will be back soon.

Nobody talking Bitcoin means we are moving steadily towards capitulation. Maybe MasterLuc's prophecy is not a bad call. Be patient if you believe in this technology. Scream if you are just a speculator. Troll if you are a troll.
For me, it cannot become silent enough for Bitcoin. Eventually, the tide will change.

Apple coming up with a mobile payment solution is overall actually good news for Bitcoin imho. People will have less fear using their mobile device for payments when Apple succeeds and Bitcoin will become just another option and not the "funny internet money for hackers" with the advantage of not needing a CC or trusting a third party. And dont't forget network effects when everybody starts unsing their smartphone to pay.

The path to $100,000 BTC
-> Apple launch own payments system
-> PayPal sign posts to the market it is doing something to counter with BTC
-> More traders take notice of BTC
-> Samsung, thinks it needs to enter the game with BTC.
-> Sony has to keep up and launches BTC for gamers
-> Every trader takes a stake in BTC
-> Pension funds buy as much BIT and COIN as they can get their hands on
-> Warren Buffett changes his mind on BTC
-> Retail investors buy as much BTC, BIT and COIN as they can
-> Microsoft thinks about buying all the BTC, but decides to create MSN Coin
-> We all live happily ever after
I've read it 10 times. Although I'm sceptic with the last point...

In my option if you are waiting for it to test $300, you will be waiting forever. Shorting only pushes very low when there is large momentum and volume. We are on the verge of a small rally to $520 - $530 ish then a slow down downtrend that could gather pace back to $390 - $380. From there in late Q1 2015 it will be bubble time.
This is just how I see it. so don't rip into me if you disagree.
I'm holding and gaining 1.5% interest a month anyway, and can afford to be patient. Patience wins usually in the long run.
Where do you gain 1.5% interest a month if I may ask?

Check edit and buy food from vendors that accept btc directly, those that use payment processors are supporting a competing economy

I have some mixed feelings about these points. I understand the point that you are making and I agree that if you know that the business is holding BTC, then they would be the preferred business to patronize.
However, I tend to believe that anyone taking BTC is a good thing, and surely, we should also be sympathetic to the businesses using payment processors (and really we do NOT have any meaningful way to verify the extent to which the payment processor businesses are directly converting or holding some percentage). We should, if we can, be inclined to replace any BTC that we spend, anyhow.
Another ongoing issue remains the tax treatments to use BTC as a form of currency... which is bullshit to have this accounting disincentive hanging over our heads.... Currently, I am trying to get around this (put this off) by simultaneously (within a week or so) replacing any BTC that I spend, and that way I can claim that there was NO capital gains or loss (makes for easier accounting for me, so far). Now, down the road, if I begin to make some substantial purchases that also include capital gains, then I will NEED to account for such gains in my projected IRS filings for the year.
Maybe consider residence in Germany if you're likely to be badly stung with that one, they stated funds from addresses that haven't moved for more than a year are tax-free. No idea how long that will last, they had the same opening on precious metals but changed it fairly recently.
+1 on the more accepting btc the better and accepting via a payment processor is far better than not accepting, the spending drive gets to me is all, "spend, spend, spend" sounds a lot like the "waste, waste, waste" of perpetual "growth".
Are you from Germany? (I am) Is it confirmed somewhere, that non moved bitcoins on an address are a legitimate proof for the tax free selling of these coins?

Now that Bitcoin is accepted by Paypal, which uses BitPay, I expect increased selling pressure. Every purchase made with BTC through Paypal will effectively equal selling those Bitcoin for FIAT. As the recipients of the transactions through Paypal will have to receive USD (I think 99.9% of vendors / ebay users does not have a bitcoin wallet anyway), every transaction paid with Bitcoin will be dumped on the nearest exchange immediately, so that PayPal (or rather, Bitpay and Coinbase) can pay out the recipient.
Therefore this is good for Bitcoin adoption, bad for Bitcoin price.
Yes, but not every satoshi payed via PayPal comes from old hodlers. I even think that most payments thru PayPal will be made by new users, and these users have to buy bitcoins first!

Last year breaking 400 would result in breaking 450 3 minutes later. Now just dumps. Nothing but dumps. This whole market is 1 big dump.
Imagine letting your coins get worth more. We must do everything to prevent that.
The difference is back then we were in the middle of a bull run @400$,
but now we are still working on a trend reversal, all it takes is a little patience.

Where can I buy ripple? I think it's shit but a centralized currency might eventually take over.
IMO bitcoin has too many wallets, too many programs for it so the average joe gets confused as to which one to use. It's better if he's just getting told "use this, do that" and everybody use the same thing
Then the best thing average Joe can do is to stay with the current banking system!

agree again. nevertheless i am just explaining the rise of ripple and thats one part of its success. you can obv say that ripple is centralized or whatsoever. only, it doesnt matter. in the end all what matters is which system gains mainstream-trust and gets track in the financial world and which system gains markets trust.
You may not be wrong in the short to medium term but in the longer term, we see what happens with trust:
Assholes get in and abuse it. Ripple may or may not have a place but it is not doing the same thing as Bitcoin.
Speaking of trust abuse: Remember who joined Ripple Labs Advisory Board in July? Yes, Mr. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg. He knows how to trick people and he knows how to keep up appearances. Perfect skills for Ripple Labs!

For people who don't know him:
BERLIN—Germany's controversial ex-defense minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg plagiarized swathes of his doctoral thesis "intentionally," according to the university that awarded him his doctorate.

This price is currently ignored.
I would pay 1 btc to find out how to ignore and to forget about Bitcoin for 3 years

If you want, for 1 BTC i can smash your head with baseball bat and just before you will wake up, i will do it again for 3 years, i have no problem with it

I knew, that in this quality thread someone would have a brilliant idea

So many high profile attacks these past few weeks involving Sony, and outages with Xbox Live, etc.
People hear bitcoin and "digital" currency. Having a website go down for a few hours is one thing... but nobody is going to be crazy enough to entrust the protocol to their savings. And the fact that value has been dropping all year doesn't help.
It's really incredible that we're still over $300 at this point. It's not going to last for long.
Only people who understand the implications of a thing being "decentralized" will "entrust the protocol to their savings". And that's the reason why smart people will be rich and the fools will be poor. IMO the implication is that Bitcoin will be one of the few things, not created by nature, that can be trusted. And in a world with increasing distrust everywhere, Bitcoin will be one of the last safe places to go.

Biggest facepalm ever, because decentralization is the #1 property that makes Bitcoin what it is. Truth is they have not the slightest idea how Bitcoin and the blockchain works, but they think it's cool and want to build their own, LOL. Another thing is strong network effects for a secure blockchain, that's what these dumbtarts will never understand.

Ask yourself why anyone would dedicate a considerable amount of their time to passionately ranting about something that they believe is doomed to failure. For hours, daily. Some have been doing it for months, years even.
I mean I'm pretty sure that, sadly, Mars One won't have anyone arriving on Mars before 2028, as is their stated goal. But I'm not going to spend thousands of hours trolling their forums because I hold that opinion. In fact, if I'm proved wrong I'd be thrilled. In the meantime it, naturally enough, simply doesn't cross my mind very much.
So we turn to Bitcoin where the forums are trolled quite disproportionately and we ask ourselves why these people are here. Consistent, vociferous and prolific. Why aren't they getting on with their lives, checking in every so often to see whether they've been vindicated?
One has to wonder. And not long after you begin to wonder you develop some circumstantial suspicions, shrug and move on with your life. Let them waste theirs - don't let them waste yours.

The difference with Bitcoin is:
1. There are people that don't have the balls to get in the new thing, but at the same time their worst fear is that this thing could go to the moon and they've missed the train. So their only chance is to troll. Pathetic.
2. People are trolling because they fear change, especially in connection with technology they don't understand. Pathetic.
3. With Bitcoin some people think, it might be profitable to pay trolls. With bitcoins of course ;-) Pathetic.
For me trolls are no problem, after 1 line of trolling I push the button

Yeah, it took Satoshi like three months to write Bitcoin after the White Paper. I'm sure a small company like IBM can write something better without taking too much longer.

If they have managed to solve the double spending problem without any need of decentralized participants/players (e.g. miners) then Bitcoin would become instantly useless.

I think anyone who thinks that "wall street' wants to buy bitcoin because Moon need to keep the above in mind. As long as there is enough volatility and volume, they will make money, much the same way as any disinterested day trader can ( and has) made money on the weekly 240 - 220 cycles we see every week.
Most of the trade volume at the big Chinese exchanges is probably robot trading. However, are the robot owners "wall street", or just individual day-traders who code their own robots? Is the liquidity there sufficient for "wall street" to be interested?
I would think that the Western exchanges like Bitstamp have so little liquidity and so much spread that not even "cottage robots" would find them worth the trouble. Is that so?
